Overview

We have to admit that there are lot of implications when an incident (either accident, poisoning or diseases) happened at our workplace. One thing for sure, it involves costs (a lot of hidden costs in fact) which surely affect the organization’s profit. Besides reducing the organization’s profit, occupational incidents will also reduce productivity, employees’ morale and up to an extent will tarnish the company’s image.

The more the incidents occur, the more critical the situation the organization is facing. This is where the knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) becomes crucial; for all levels of personnel especially to the top management.

In order to get the best from OSH implementation, it cannot be treated as an isolated activity from other profit-based or productivity-based activities or done just for legislation compliance purposes only. It should be treated as a part of the organization’s integrated management system. OSH is considered a success when it becomes a part of the organization’s culture.

In realizing OSH as a part of the organization’s culture, there are 3 important steps to be taken:

  1. Treating OSH awareness for all personnel including the top management
  2. Establishing / strengthening the functions of the Safety and Health Committee (SHC)
  3. Establishing / strengthening the management system pertaining to OSH

Here are proposed training programs for each step:
